LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 67.

May hold real
and personal
property.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
shall be capable of taking and holding real and personal
estate, not exceeding in value the sum of three thousand
dollars, which estate shall never be divided among the
members of the corporation, but shall descend to their
successors for the benevolent relief of the sick and dis-
tressed, the education of the orphans of its members, and
for the promotion of those purposes and the cause of
temperance generally.

May make and
alter by-laws.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this corporation shall
have power to make by-laws, and the same to alter and
amend at their pleasure; provided, they do not conflict
with the laws of the State of Maryland, the laws of the
United States, or the laws of the Grand Division.

Enure for 30
years.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act of incorpora-
tion shall enure for thirty years from its passage, and that
the Legislature reserves to itself the right to alter and
amend this act of incorporation at pleasure.

Issues forbid.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
be construed so as to authorise the said corporation to
issue any note, token, device, scrip, or other evidence of
debt to be used as a currency.

CHAPTER 67.

Passed Feb.
19, 1847.

An act to make valid a deed from Adolphus Williamson,
of the City and County of Baltimore, in the State of
Maryland, to Robert Gilmor, of the same place.

Repealed.

WHEREAS, doubts are entertained as to the validity
of a certain deed, executed and acknowledged on the
twenty-third day of January, one thousand eight hun-
dred and thirty-six, between Adolphus Williamson, of
the city and county of Baltimore, of the one part, and
Robert Gilmor, of the same place, of the other part,
owing to the omission of one of the justices of the peace
taking the acknowledgment, in signing and stating him-
self to be a county justice of the peace, authorised to take
acknowledgments in the city of Baltimore.

Made valid.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the deed from Adolphus Williamson, of the city
and county of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, to
Robert Gilmor, of the same place, dated the twenty-
third day of January, in the year one thousand eight hun-
