Preamble and Resolutions in favor of Captain S. H. Wal-
ker, United States Army.
WHEREAS, Captain Samuel H. Walker, of the United
States Army has hitherto, by feats of personal daring
and bravery, conferring no less honor upon himself than
his native State, greatly distinguished himself; and
whereas, more than one hundred native Marylanders,
implicitly relying upon his unsullied reputation for chival-
ry and courage, have voluntarily chosen to follow him
to a triumphant victory or glorious death; and whereas,
it is deemed highly desirable to obtain for the use of his
company a suitable rifle for the service in which they
are about to be engaged — Therefore,
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
our Senators and Representatives in the Congress of the
United States, be earnestly requested to urge upon the
General Government the necessity and propriety of fur-
nishing said company with such rifles as may, in the
opinion of Captain Samuel H. Walker, be most suitable
for the service on which said company are about to be
engaged.
Resolved, That the Executive of this State transmit
a copy of the aforegoing preamble and resolution to the
Senators and Representatives in Congress from this State.
