CHAPTER 273.

An act to authorise the Trustees of the School Fund for
Prince George's County, in their discretion, to establish

Primary School in the First Election District of said
County, or to change the location of a School House
therein mentioned.

CHAP. 273.

10, 1847.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the trustees of the school fund for
Prince Gcorge's county be, and they are hereby autho-
rised, in their discretion, to contract for, and superintend
the erection and construction of a school house in the
first election district of said county, in the neighborhood
of John S. Hopkins' store, and for that purpose, the said
trustees shall have power to condemn any land on which
to erect said school house for the public use, and to value
the same, the owner or owners of which shall be paid:
therefor, according to said valuation, in the manner pro-
vided for in the act passed at December session, eighteen

hundred and thirty-eight, chapter sixty-one.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That as soon as said school
house is erected and completed, the said trustees shall
have power to employ a teacher therefor, and to pay
him in the same manner as other teachers of the free
schools in Prince George's county are paid, and the levy
court of said county is hereby directed, annually here-
after, to levy and assess upon the taxable property of
said county, subject to the order of said trustees, such

sum of money as may be necessary to pay the annual
salary of said teacher, to be collected and paid as other
teachers are paid.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said school house
hereinbefore mentioned, be deemed and considered as a

free school, and il is hereby placed on the same footing,
entitled to the same privileges, and subject to the same
regulations that other free schools in said County are
subject and entitled to.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the surveyor of the
counly is hereby directed to give his services, if required,

to survey and lay out the lot of ground which may be
deemed necessary for the erection of the aforesaid school
house, and the levy court is hereby authorised lo allow
said surveyor such compensation for his services as they
may deem adequate.
