CHAPTER 242.
An act entitled, an act to authorise a Lottery to raise a
sum of money to make a Turnpike Road from the
town of Westminster, in Carroll County, Maryland,
through Taneytown, in said county, and through Em-
mittsburg, in Frederick County, to the nearest and
most practicable route to the Pennsylvania Line.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Isaac
Baugher, Christian Correll, of Frederick county, and
John Swope, William Frizzle and Sterling Galt, of
Carroll county, that they jointly be, and they are here-
by appointed commissioners, with full power and autho-
rity, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme or
schemes of lotteries, from time to time, and dispose of
their tickets, or shares of tickets, and draw lotteries,
from time to time, until they shall have raised sixty
thousand dollars, free and clear of all expenses what-
soever.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That before any scheme or
schemes shall be proposed, or any ticket or tickets shall
be sold, or any lottery or lotteries shall be drawn, the
commissioners aforesaid named in this act, under this
law, shall give their bond or bonds to the Treasurer of
the State of Maryland for sixty thousand dollars, with
security, to be approved of by one of the judges of
Carroll county court, and said bond or bonds to be re-
corded in the clerk's office of said county court, with
condition that they will faithlully cause the amount of
money intended to be raised by this act, to be applied to
the making of a Turnpike Road from the town of West-
minster, in Carroll county, through Taneytown, and
through Emmittsburg, in Frederick county, to the
nearest and best route on the Pennsylvania line.

$60,000.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the commissioners
appointed by virtue of this act, or a majority of them,
shall have full power and authority to sell and dispose of
their grant, by sale or contract, as they may deem pioper,
to any contractor or contractors of lotteries in the United
States, and such contractor or contractors of lotteries
shall have and enjoy all the rights and privileges as are
conferred on the commissioners named in the first section
of this act; provided however, that before such con-
tractor or contractors shall so avail themselves of said
rights and privileges, they shall give bond to the State
