1846.

hereafter appointed to act under any existing regulation
of the association, shall continue so to do according to
provisions of the association heretofore made, and such
regulations shall, till lawfully altered, be deemed as valid
and obligatory, as if made since the passage of this act.

CHAP. 232.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That no member of the
association shall, in his individual capacity, be answera-
ble for any losses, deficiencies or failures of the joint fund
or debt of the said institution, nor for any more or larger
sum or sums of money whatever, than the current
amount by him payable into the common fund of the

society.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That nothing herein con-

tained, shall be so construed as to authorise or empower
said corporation to issue any notes, token or certificate
of debts to be used as a currency, and that nothing herein
contained, shall be so construed as to deny the right to
the General Assembly of Maryland, to repeal this act
at its pleasure.

CHAPTER 233.

A supplement to the act entitled, an act for draining a
Branch or Swamp called Bee Tree Swamp, lying in
Caroline County, passed November session, eighteen
hundred and twelve, chapter one hundred and fjfty-seven.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That when the directors shall have been elected, accord-
ing to the provisions of the first section of the act to
which this is a supplement, and when said diiectors shall
have proceeded to the discharge of the duties assigned
them, according to the provisions of the third section of
said act, they and their successors shall have full power
and authority to levy and collect from the proprietors of
said land, their agents or tenants, any sum or sums of money
that may appear to be his or her due propoition, for the
cutting out and cleansing said ditch or drain, the same to
be collected as county taxes is now collected by law,
any law to the contrary notwithstanding.
