CHAPTER 231.
An act to incorporate the Hagerstown Musical Asocia-
tion of Washington County.
|

Incorporated.
Name.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Leander McKee, James J. Hurley,
John W. Heard, Daniel O'Leary, William E. Keefer,
Charles F. Gelwicks and ali others who are, or may be
hereafter admitted into the association, agreeably to
such rules and legulations as now are, or may from time
to time, be established for the government and manage-
ment of the same, and their successors and assigns be,
and they are hereby created a corporation and body poli-
tic, for the purpose of extending the knowledge, improv-
ing the style of performance, and of fostering a taste for
music in its true character, by the name of the Hagers-
town Musical Association, and by that name shall have
perpetual succession, and shall be able and capable in law
to sue and be sued, implead and be impleaded, answer
and be answered, in any court of law or equity, and to
ordain and establish such by-laws and regulations not con-
trary to law, as shallbe necessary and convenient for con-
ducting the affairs of this corpotation.

Hold real and
personal estate.
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
shall be capable of taking and holding real and personal
estate, not exceeding the value of two thousand dollars,
which estate shall never be divided among the members
of the corporation, but shall descend to their successors,
subject to the payment of the just debts to be incurred
by said corporation.

Officers to con-
sist of a presi-
dent, &c.
|
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That from and after the
passage of this act, the officers of the Hagerstown Musi-
cal Association shall consist of a president, two vice pre-
sidents, secretary and treasurer, who shall be elected by
ballot on the first Mondays of February, May, August
and November thereafter, a majority of the members pre-
sent at the meeting, being necessary to constitute a choice,
and a leader to be appointed by the executive committee,
to consist of the said president, vice president, secretary
and treasurer, on the days and months aforementioned,
and the association shall also have power to appoint such
other officers as they may deem necessary and expedient,
and in such manner as they may think proper.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That until there shall be
under this act an election of officers necessary to the uses
of this association those now acting or who may be
