CHAP. 141.

some day between the passage of this act and the first day
of June next, and after giving at least three weeks public
notice be, and they are hereby authorised and directed,
to offer at public sale, at the court house in Calvert county,
the contract for building a good and substantial fire proof
clerks office, of brick, at least twenty feet square, and
either attached to or separate from the court house, with
cases, desks and other necessary fixtures, and that the

said contract shall be given to the lowest bidder; pro-
vided, he gives bond to the levy court aforesaid, with
good and sufficient security, to erect the said building in
a workmanlike manner, and to complete the same in the
time specified by the said court.

Court to levy.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the levy court of
Calvert county be, and they are hereby authorised and
required, at the time of next laying the levy for the county
aforesaid, to levy upon the assessable properly of Calvert
county, the sum bid for the contract aforesaid.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the sum of money so
levied, by the levy court, shall be collected by the county
collector, and paid over to the levy court, and by the said
court paid over to the bidder or contractor, in two equal
sums of money, the one-half as the building shall pro-
gress, and the other half when said building shall have
been finished as contracted.

An act to regulate the Height of Fences in Allegany
County and for oilier purposes.

Not to im-
pound, &c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall not be lawful for any person or
persons, within the limits of Allegany county, to im-
pound any horned or black cattle, sheep or hogs, unless
the same shall be found trespassing within any field or
yard or garden, which shall be enclosed with a good and
substantial fence at least four-and-one-half feet high.

Liable for da-
mages.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That if any person or per-
sons within the limits of Allegany county, shall dog, beat,
bruise, or in any manner injure any horned or black cattle,
sheep or hogs, the owner or tenant of the property on
which said horned or black cattle, sheep or hogs, shall
be so injured, shall be liable in an action of damages for
