1846.

it shall be lawful for all persons appointed by the com-
missioners of Harford county, to lay out any public or
private road or landing in said county, to qualify them-
selves in the presence of each other, by oath or affirma-
tion as they may determine, observing strictly the form
now used, and after the qualification of such persons,
any one of them are hereby authorised by this act to
qualify by oath or affirmation, surveyor, chain carriers,
and all persons to whom it is necessary to administer
such oath or affirmation in such cases; they may then
proceed to lay out any public or private road or landing,
and all acts performed by them shall be valid in law as if
qualified by a justice of the peace.

CHAP. 16.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all acts inconsistent
with the provisions of this act, be and the same are
hereby repealed.

An act to incorporate the Washington Division Number
Nine, of the Order of the Sons of Temperance.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That John Green, Jr., William G. Young,
William A. Disney, Samuel Henderson, Amasa Leonard,
Jr., John J. Hindes, Charles F. Bevan, William Sulli-
van, Edward May, Edward Cockey and others, the offi-
cers and members of the Washington Division Number
Nine, of the Order of the Sons of Temperance, and their
successors be, and they are hereby declared to be a
community, corporation and body politic, by the name
and number, style and title of the Washington Division
Number Nine, of the Order of the Sons of Temperance,
and by that name and number, they and their successors
shall and may, at any time hereafter, be capable in law
to have, receive and retain to them and their successors,
properly, real and personal; also devises or bequests of
any person or persons, bodies corporate or politic, capa-
ble of making the same, and the same at their pleasure
to transfer or dispose of in such manner as they may
think proper; provided, always, that the said corpora-
tion or body politic, shall not at any time hold or possess
property, real, personal or mixed, exceeding in value the
sum of twenty thousand dollars.
