1846.

impleaded, answer and be answered unto, defend and be
defended, in all or any courts of law and equity, and
before all or any judges, officers or persons whatsoever,
in all and singular actions, matters or demands what-
soever.

CHAP. 128.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall and may be
lawful for the said corporation to have a common seal for
their use; and the same, at their will and pleasure to
change, alter or make anew, from time to time as they
may think best, and shall in general have and exercise
all such rights, privileges and immunities as by law are
incident or necessary to the corporation herein constitu-
ted, and to enable members of said Order to exercise all
things concerning the design of this corporation for the
benevolent relief of the sick and distressed, and for the
promotion of their purposes generally.

Common seal.

SEC. 4 And be it enacted, That it shall and may be
lawful at any time for the General Assembly to demand
a statement of the amount of property, real and personal,
belonging to the said corporation, and of the debts due
to and from the said corporation, and the purposes for
which disbursements shall have been made; and shall
also have the right to authorise one or more persons to
inspect such general accounts in the books of the corpo-
ration as shall relate to such statements.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted. That this corporation shall
not be permitted to issue any note, token or device, scrip
or other evidence of debt, to be used as currency.

Issues forbid.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this act shall enure
for thirty years, and the Legislature reserves to itself the
light to change, alter or annul this act of incorporation
at pleasure.

An act to incorporate St. John's Institute.

19, 1847.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
Joseph Spencer, James A. McKenny, Smith Pyne, Wil-
liam A. Bradley, Samuel E. Donaldson, John Glenn and
Hugh Davey Evans, shall be a body politic and corpo-
rate, under the name and style of St. John's Institute,
and by that name, style and title, shall have continued
