CHAPTER 71.

An act to provide for the speedy collection of the Public

Revenue.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall be the duty of the clerks of the
county courts of this State and of Howard District court,
and of the city court of Baltimore, to transmit to the
treasurer of this State on or before the first Monday of
June and November in each and every year after the
passage of this act, lists and accounts under oath of all
licenses which shall be by them severally granted in pur-
suance of any existing or future law of this State, to reg-
ulate the issuing of licenses to traders, keepers of ordi-
naries and others, which lists shall conform to the direc-
tions of the fifth section of the act of eighteen hundred
and thirty-one, chapter two hundred and sixty-two, under
the penalty provided by the sixth section of the act
passed at December session eighteen hundred and twenty
seven, chapter one hundred and seventeen, entitled an
act to regulate the issuing of licenses to traders, keepers
of ordinaries and others.

SEC. 2. And be, it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the said clerks at the time of transmitting the said lists
and accounts to the treasurer, or within thirty days after

the said first Monday of June and November, to pay
over to him the amount appearing by said lists and ac-
counts to be due to the State, and in ease the said clerks
shall fail to account and pay as aforesaid, within the pe-
riod aforesaid, the said treasurer shall give notice thereof
to the deputy of the Attorney General for the proper

county, district or city, whose duty it shall be to put the
bond of such clerk in suit for the use of this State, in
which suit a recovery shall be had for the amount so ap-
pearing to be due the State, with interest at the late of
ten per centum per annum from the first Monday in June
and November respectively, which recovery shall be ev-
idence of misbehaviour and ipso facto remove such clerk
from office, which shall thereupon be filled by the Gov-
ernor as prescribed by the constitution and laws of this
State, and such failure on the part of arty of the said
clerks shall amount to forfeiture of the commission to
which he would otherwise be entitled.

the Registers of Wills of this State, the Register of the
Court of Chancery, and the clerks of the county courts
