CHAPTER 56.
An act for the relief of John H. Berry, Junior, of Balti-
more.
WHEREAS, it has been represented to the General
Assembly, that John H. Berry, Junior, of the city of Bal-
timore, introduced into this State, in the year eighteen
hundred and forty-three, a female slave for life by the
name of Fanny, the gift of his father-in-law, Nathaniel
West, of Virginia, and in the following year a male slave
for life by the name of Jim, which came to him in a
course of distribution in right of his wife; and it appear-
ing that the said John H. Berry, Junior, omitted, through
ignorance of the law, to comply with the various requi-
sitions of the acts of assembly passed at December ses-
sion, eighteen hundred and thirty-three, chapter eighty-
seven, and eighteen hundred and thirty-five, chapter six-
ty-one — therefore,

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That all forfeitures incurred, or which may be incurred
by the said John H. Berry, junior, in consequence of his
failure to comply with the requisitions and provisions of
the said acts, be and they are hereby fully and absolute-
ly remitted, and he shall be and remain in the same plight
and condition as if the provisions of the said acts had

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the treasurer be, and he is hereby au-
thorised and required, in such mode and at such time as
to him may seem most advantageous, to sell or dispose
of the bank stocks standing to the credit of the primary
or free school fund of Calvert county, and to receive
payment therefor in coupons or certificates for interest
from this State, and to apply such coupons or certificates
for interest to the payment of taxes due this State from
Calvert county for the years eighteen hundred and forty-
