RESOLUTIONS. 1845.
|
|
|
|
Franklin Bank of Baltimore; and whereas, it has been
represented by several memorialists to this General As-
sembly, that prior to said decisions, and in obedience to
the said act of March session, eighteen hundred and forty-
one, chapter twenty-three, sundry of the stockholders in
said banks paid the said tax imposed by said law and its
supplements; whilst according to the decisions referred
to, the stock therein was exempt from taxation; which
said taxes so paid, should be refunded; therefore,
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Commissioner of Loans be, and he is hereby author-
ised and required, upon satisfactory evidence being fur-
nished to him of the payment of taxes upon the stocks
of any of the banks mentioned in the foregoing preamble,
imposed for any year prior to the year eighteen hundred
and forty-six, under the provisions of the said act of
March session, eighteen hundred and forty-one, chapter
twenty-three, and its supplements; that in such case, the
said commissioners shall issue to the party or parties so
paying, a certificate for the amount, signed by him as
commissioner of loans, which upon its face, shall be re-
ceivable and be received, in payment of taxes or other
sums due this State, and the said commissioners shall
keep a record of the same and transmit to the treasurer
of this State a statement, showing the persons to whom
and the amounts of the certificates he may issue, under
the authority hereby conferred upon him.

Resolution is favor of Constant D. Stanford, for the
use, &c.
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Treasurer of the State be and he is hereby authorised
and directed to pay to Constant D. Stanford or disorder,
lor the use of Nancy Stanford, Elizabeth Smith and Bid-
dy Hilman, children and heirs at law of Sally Hilman,
deceased, the sum of twenty dollars, it being the amount
due said Sally Hilman, at the time of her death, on ac-
account of a pension of forty dollars per annum, granted
to her, as the widow of William Hilman, a soldier of the
revolution, in the Maryland line.
