LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 312.

have written or printed on them "against the school tax, "
then so much of the law passed at December session,
eighteen hundred and forty-four, chapter two hundred
and thirty-two, as relates to taxation he null and void,
but if a majority of the tickets polled as aforesaid, shall
have written or printed on them "for the school tax, " then
the said law shall remain and be in full force.

Trustees to
give notice.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the trustees of school
district number one, in the second election district of
Caroline county, shall at least ten days before holding

said election, give notice thereof by four public adver-
tisements, one set up at the school house door in said
school district, and three others, at three of the most
public places in said school district, stating the place and
the hours when the polls shall be opened and closed,
which shall be at ten o'clock A. M. and three o'clock P.,
M. on the aforesaid first Saturday in June next.

Appoint
judges of elec-
tion.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the orphans court of
Caroline county, shall at least twenty days before hold-
ing the election as provided for in this act, appoint three
suitable persons in said school district number one, as
judges to said election, who before they shall proceed to
act as such, make oath or affirmation before some justice
of the peace, that they will faithfully and impartially dis-
charge the duties of judges of the election then about to
be holden to the best of their skill and judgment.

Appoint two
clerks.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the judges so appoint-
ed and qualified, shall appoint two clerks to said elec-
tion, citizens of school district number one, as aforesaid,
who in like manner shall make oath or affirmation that
they will faithfully and without partiality or prejudice,
discharge the duties of clerk to said election to the best
of their skill and judgement.

Make out re-
turns.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the judges and clerks
aforesaid, shall in the form and manner similar to the re-
turns made out by the judges of the State election, make
out. and return to the orphans courts of Caroline county,
within five days after said election, the results thereof.

File returns.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the register of wills of Caroline county, to file the re-
turns of the election so made, with the papers of his of-
fice relating to the school fund of Caroline county.

Not to affect
the collection

of the tax.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act
shall be so Construed, as to affect the collection of the
tax, that has or may be levied for the support of the said
school number one, for the present year.
