LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 303.

Stiles, Clinton Boyd, Martin W. Mettee, Jesse Taylor,
Benjamin F. Parlett, James Disney, James H. Stran,
John Hilditch, William B. Henderson and John Charlton,
officers and members of John Hancock Division, number
seventeen, of the Sons of Temperance, of the city of Bal-
timore and State of Maryland, and their successors, be
and they ate hereby incorporated and made a body pol-

itic and corporate, by the name and number of John
Hancock Division, number seventeen, of the Sons of
Temperance, of the city of Baltimore and State of Mary-
land, and by that name may sue and be sued, plead and
be impleaded; and have a common seal, and the same at
their pleasure alter; and be entitled to use the powers
and privileges incident to such corporations.

May hold real
and personal
property.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corpora-
tion shall have power to take and hold real and personal
property, not exceeding in value at any time, the sum of
twenty thousand dollars, which properly shall never be
divided among the members of the said corporation, but
shall descend to their successors, to be applied to the
relief of the sick and distressed members of said corpora-
tion, the education of the children of deceased members,
and for the promotion of these objects generally.

Alter and
amend by-laws.

Proviso.

SEC, 3. And be it enacted, That the corporation afore-
said, shall have power to alter and amend the by-laws
thereof at pleasure; provided, that such alteration and
amendment do not in any way conflict with the laws of
the State of Maryland, the laws of the United States, or
the laws of the Grand Division of the Sons Temperance
of the State of Maryland.

Issues forbid.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
shall not be allowed to issue any note, token, device,
scrip or other evidence of debt, to be used as a currency.

Enure for 40
years.

Right reserv-
ed.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act of incorpo-
ration shall enure for forty years from the passage here-
of, and that the legislature reserves to itself the right to
alter and amend the same at pleasure.

An act for the incorporation of Mechanicstown Division,
Number Twenty-one, of the Sons of Temperance.

Incorporated.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
