LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 271.

the city of Baltimore; and in any meeting of stockhold-
ers, for the transaction of any business, the owners of
the major part of the stock, present in person or by
proxy, shall form a quorum, and every such meeting shall
have full power and authority to provide, by ordaining
by-laws or by other vote, for transacting the business of

the corporation, which by-laws or vole, whilst in force,
shall be binding on the president and directors.

Issues forbid.

SEC. 5. And it it enacted, That nothing herein con-
tained, shall be construed to confer banking privileges
on the said corporation, or the power of issuing bank
notes, or notes in the nature of bank notes, or paper in-
tended to circulate as bank notes or currency.

Repealed.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this act shall con-

tinue in force until the first day of January, in the year
eighteen hundred and seventy; provided however, that it
may be repented at any time, at the pleasure of the Gene-
ral Assembly.

CHAPTER 271.

Passed Feb.
25, 1846.

An act to make valid certain Deeds therein mentioned.

Made valid.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the several deeds of conveyance in fee,
heretofore made and executed to Samuel M. Semmes, of
real estate, lying and being in Allegany county, in this
State, to be held by the said Semmes, in trust for Henry
Thomas Weld of England, be and the same are hereby
made good and valid to all intents and purposes, as
though the said Henry Thomas Weld was a native or
naturalized citizen of the United States; and which said
deeds are as follows, to wit: the deed from Gustavus
Beall and Rachel his wife to the said Semmes, dated the
the thirteenth day of February, in the year eighteen hun-
dred, and forty four, and recorded amongst the land re-
cords of said Allegany county, in Liber A. B, No. EX E.
folios 22, 23 and 24; the deed from George Hoblitzell
and Sarah his wife, to the said Semmes, dated the four-
teenth day of February, in the same year, and recorded
as aforesaid, in the same Liber, folios 9, 10 and 11;
the deed from John J. Hoffman and Mary his wife, to
the said Semmes, bearing the same date as the last
mentioned deed, and recorded in the same Liber, folios 24,
25 and 26; the deed from George M. Blocher and Aman-
da his wife, to the said Semmes, bearing the same date
