company, having for its object the insuring of a speedy
and safe conveyance of the various products of the
farmer to a market, thereby enabling the citizens of our
towns to purchase directly from the producer, and at the
same time enabling the producer to choose his market,
would greatly benefit the agricultural interests of a large
portion of the State, situated on the waters of the Chesa-
peake Bay, enhance the value of the property thereof,
and thereby increase the revenue of the State, giving to
our citizens all those advantages which the creation of
similar companies in our sister States, to the north and
east, have already secured to their agriculturalists, and
where theory has been followed by solid practical results,
and for which that part of this State situated on the wa-
ters of the Chesapeake Bay are peculiarly adapted;
and whereas, it is represented to the General Assembly
of Maryland, that John Cozier, Robert H. Thomas, Ben-
jamin S. Foulks, James L. Craig, George W. Bennett,
Henry Kibler, George S. Bryan, Benjamin Craig, and
others, agriculturists, are willing to establish a compa-
ny to promote this object — therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Ceorge W. Bennett, Robert H. Tho-
mas, James L. Craig, Benjamin S. Foulks, Henry S.
Kibler, George S. Bryan and Benjamin Craig, and all
and every person or persons who may become subscri-
bers, according to the mode hereinafter prescribed, their
successors and assigns, shall be and they are hereby in-

modation Line, for the purposes and with the privileges
and immunities herein described, defined and granted,
and by that name shall be a body politic and incorparate,

in fact and in law, and may sue and be sued, plead and
be impleaded in all courts of justice and elsewhere, and
the said company shall have power and authority, at any
time after the passage of this act, to purchase, build,
charter, receive in donation, possess and enjoy, retain,
demise, grant, lease, alien and sell, under the restrictions
and limitations hereinafter mentioned, such boats pro-
pelled by steam and others, wharves, warehouses for
agencies and for shipping merchandise, grain and other
agricultural products, and all such rights, goods, chattels
and effects, necessary or useful for the construction, erec-
tion and carry ing on the freighting business; and the said
