pealed, and that at the election to be he held in October
next, for members of the second branch of the city coun-
cil, they shall be chosen to serve for the period of two
years, and that the election of members of the second
branch of the city council, shall be on the same day every
second year thereafter, as was provided by law, prior to
the passage of the act to which this is a supplement.

CHAPTER 239.

CHAP. 239.

An act relating to the payment of the Bailiff of the Or-
phans Court of Baltimore City and County.

1846.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall be the duty of the commis-
sioners of Baltimore county, to cause to be levied at the
time of making the levy for the county charge, in the
year eighteen hundred and forty-six, the amount which
said commissioners shall estimate will become due and
payable to the bailiffs of the orphans court of Baltimore
city and county, for the county's proportion thereof, for
the years eighteen hundred and forty-six and eighteen
hundred and forty-seven; and at every annual levy there-
after, it shall be the duty of the said commissioners to
cause to be levied the amount which they shall estimate
will become payable as aforesaid, for the services afore-

said, for and during the then succeeding year.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That at the end of each
quarter of every year, from and after the passage of this
act, it shall be the duty of the register of wills of said
county and city, to certify to the treasurer of Baltimore
county, and to the mayor and register of the city of Bal-
timore, the amount of dues lor such quarter of the said
bailiff, and it shall be the duty thereupon of the said
treasurer, and of the said major and register, to pay the
said dues in the proportion thereof, in which the dues
of said bailiffs are now by law payable by the city of Bal-
timore, and by Baltimore county, out of the limits of the
