1845.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the authority hereby
given, shall continue until the first day of June, in the
year eighteen hundred and forty-seven, and no longer,
and that this act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAP. 214.

1847.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That before the said John
C. Bryan shall be authorised to collect, under and by vir-
tue of this act, he shall first obtain the written assent of
the administrator and the securities of the said Thomas
W. DeCoursey, and file the same with the clerk of Quern
Anne's county court to be kept in his office.

An act ceding to the United States jurisdiction in, to and
over Soller's Point Flats, in the Patapsco river, when-
ever the United States shall acquire the title to the same
from the owner or owners thereof.

2, 1846.

WHEREAS, the Untied States Government have in con-
templation the erection of fortifications on Seller's Point
Flats, in the Patapsco river, which would add greatly to
the defence and security of the city of Baltimore, and the
United States Government wish the cession of jurisdic-
tion before the erection of any such fortifications; and
whereas, it has been represented by Augustine Taney, a
citizen of this State, that he is the owner of the said Flats,
and this General Assembly are unwilling to pass any act
which might injure or prejudice the rights of any of the
citizens of this State — therefore,

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the consent of this State be, and the same is hereby
given to the United States, to erect works of fortification
on Soller's Point Flats, in the Patapsco river, and that
the right of jurisdiction is hereby ceded to the United
States over any works of fortification that may be erected
by them on the said Soller's Point Flats, in the Patapsco
river, the said jurisdiction to extend in all directions one-
fourth of a mile beyond any part of the said works and

their appendages; provided however, that this act shall be
inoperative and of no effect, until the United States Go-
vernment shall have acquired the title to the said Soller's
Point Flats from the owner or owners thereof.
