CHAPTER 206.

An act to incorporate the, Uncas Tribe, Number Six, of
the Improved Order of Red Men, of the State of Ma-

ryland.

1846.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That J. Thomson Laws, Joshua Adams,
William Somerville, Philip A. Moltz, William H. Allen,
Thomas Coburn, John Kettlewell, Joseph C. Boyd and
George F. Sable, and others, the officers and members of
Uncas Tribe. Number Six, of the Improved Order of
Red Men of the State of Maryland, and their successors,
he and they are hereby declared to be a community, cor-

poration and body politic, by the name, style and title
of Uncas Tribe, Number Six, of the Improved Order of

Red Men of the State of Maryland, and by that name
they and their successors shall, and may at all times here-
after, be capable in law to have, receive and retain to

and also, devises and bequests of any person or persons,
bodies corporate or politic, capable of making the same,
and the same at their pleasure to transfer or dispose of

ways, that the said corporation or body politic, shall not
at any one time hold or possess property, real and per-
sonal or mixed, exceeding in annual value the sum of five
thousand dollars.

Proviso.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
and their successors, by the name and title aforesaid,
shall be capable in law to sue and be sued, plead and be
impleaded, answer and be answered unto, defend and be
defended, in all or any courts of law and equity, and be-
fore all or any judges, officers or persons whatsoever, in
all and singular actions, matters or demands whatso-
ever.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That it shall and may be
lawful for the said corporation, to have a common seal
for their use, and the same at their pleasure to change,
alter and make anew, from time to time as they may
think best, and shall in general have and exercise all

cident and necessary to corporations, and what may be
necessary to the corporation herein constituted, and to
enable the members of said order to exercise all things
concerning the design of this corporation, for the benevo-
lent relief of the sick and distressed, and for the promo-
