of this act shall be as valid and binding to all intents and
purposes, as if they had been done by the said William Key
Howard after his attaining to the age of twenty-one
years.

An act to authorise the measuring of cord wood at Jeffer-
sonville and Principio Furnace, or within one mile of
either place in Cecil County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Governor with the advice and con-
sent of the Senate, shall be and is hereby authorised and
required, to appoint one wood corder for the village of
Jeffersonville and Principio Furnace, or within one mile
of either place in Cecil county, and that said corder shall
be governed by the same laws with regard to his mea-
surement, which govern the wood corders in the city of

Baltimore, and that he shall be allowed for each cord so
measured, four cents per cord.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That before the said corder
shall proceed to act as such, he shall take an oath faithful-
ly to perform his duty as corder for said village of Jef-
fersonville and Principio Furnace, or within one mile of
either place in Cecil county, to the best of his skill and
judgment, without favor, affection, partiality or preju-
dice.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That when any person may
want wood measured, he shall call on the corder in per-
son or by a written notice to the corder aforesaid, whose
duty it shall be immediately thereafter to measure the
same, but that nothing herein contained shall be con-
strued or taken to compel any person or persons to have
their wood measured or inspected, but that all persons
wishing it shall have it done by the corder appointed as
aforesaid, and if any person shall measure any wood at
the village of Jeffersonville and Principio Furnace, or
within one mile of either place in Cecil county, and re-
ceive pay therefor without being appointed by the Gov-
ernor and confirmed by the Senate as aforesaid, and con-
trary to the true intent and meaning of this act, such
person so offending, shall forfeit and pay twenty dollars
