Chap. Sec.

PROMISSORY NOTES, &c.-

 

any paper &c. stamped to be used by him

 

as tho' he had obtained the same from

 

clerk, &c. such paper to be presented to

 

Commissioner of Loans who shall upon

 

receiving the duties, &c. chargeable, &c

 

stamp such papers, &c. provided that noth-

 

ing in this section, shall authorise a stamp

 

upon any of the instruments, &c, after the

 

same shall have been protested, &c. and

 

Commissioner of Loans on 1st of June,

 

Sept Dec. and March, pay over to Trea-

 

surer all sums received, &c. on failure to

 

account within 10 days from the time

 

limited, &c. Treasurer to notify Deputy

 

Attorney General of Balto. whose duty it

 

shall be to put bond in suit.

 

Whenever any person shall apply to

 

clerks, &c. for any quantity at one time of

 

vellum, &c. the whole amount of duties on

 

which shall be $10 clerk authorised to de-

 

liver the same upon receiving amount of

 

said duties, deducting seven and a half per

 

cent.
Penalty for fraudently evading the du-

 

ties enforced by this act.

 

No instrument of writing shall be plead-

 

ed or given in evidence unless stamped.

Clerks to account and pay over to

 

Treasurer all sums received on the 1st

 

days of June, Sept. Dec. and March, each

 

year including additional sums received

 

under preceding section, deducting one

 

per cent, commission for services, account

 

to be verified by oath, the amount &c. of

 

stamps remaining on hand,&c and on fail-

 

ure to account within 30 days, Treasurer

 

to give notice, to Deputy Attorney Gene-

 

ral to put bond in suit, &c. upon receiving

 

the bond of said clerks fer auy default un-

 

der provisions of this act, clerk to be re-

 

moved and Governor to fill vacancy.

At the time of repeal of act, any person

 

having in hand any stamped paper, &c. up-

 

on returning same to Treasurer, to be en-
