RESOLUTIONS.                                   1844.

eighteen hundred and forty-three, and that at the time of
his death, there was due him a portion of his salary, fox
the then current quarter, and no administration having
been had on his estate, his funeral expenses remain un-
paid—Therefore,

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Treasurer of this State pay to Amelia Pinkney, his
mother, or to her order, whatever sum remained due to
the said Henry Hobbs, for his salary, at the time of his
death, to be applied by her in payment of the funeral ex-
penses of the deceased.

Preamble and Resolutions in relation to the Harbour of
Havre de Grace.

Passed Feb.
10, 1846.

WHEREAS, by a survey of the harbour of Havre de
Grace, in Maryland, heretofore made by G. W. Hughes,
United State's Engineer, in pursuance of an order of Con-
gress, an appropriation is recommended for deepening
said harbour, and the removal of sand bars that are ob-
structions thereto; AND WHEREAS, the said harbour by
means of the Tide Water Canal, is connected with and is
the terminus of the great lines of internal improvement
which extend along both branches of the Susquehanna
some two or three hundred miles into the interior of Penn-
sylvania, and westward to the Ohio river, and is the de-
pot of the vast trade in minerals, manufactures and agri-
cultural productions of the States of Pennsylvania, Vir-
ginia, New York, Kentucky and Ohio, which find their
market along these channels, and constitute a large pro-
portion of the coasting trade of the country—Therefore,
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the public good, and the interest of commerce in particu-
lar, requires that an early appropriation should be made
by Congress for the improvement of said harbour, as re-
commended in the report of said engineer, and that our
Senators and Representatives in Congress be requested to
use their efforts to obtain a sufficient appropriation for
that purpose.
Resolved, That the Governor be and he is hereby re-
quested to transmit a copy of these resolutions to each of
the Senators and Representatives in Congress of this State,
and also to the Governor's of New York, Pennsylvania,
