THOMAS G. PRATT, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

CHAP. 292.

Senate, annually appoint three competent persons to be
known as the directors of said road, and said directors or
a majority of them, or the survivors or survivor of said
directors, shall from and after the time of then appoint-
ment and until others shall be chosen and qualified to act
in their stead, have and exercise all the powers and au-
thority over said road in the management of the affairs
thereof, as were by existing laws meant and intended to

 

be vested in the superintendent; provided however, that
before the said directors shall be authorised to act as
such, they shall execute a bond to the State in the same
penalty and with the same condition (excepting that the
word "directors" be substituted for "superintendent") as
the superintendent was heretofore required to execute,
and that such bond be executed with such security as

shall be approved by the clerk of Allegany county court.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said directors, or a
majority of them, or the survivors or survivor of them
shall and may require the toll-gatherers and all other
agents and persons who may be employed by them in the
management of the affairs of said road, to execute bonds
to them in such penalties and with such security as they
may approve, conditioned for the faithful performance of
their several and respective duties; and in case of mis-
conduct on the part of said agents, the said directors shall
thereupon immediately dismiss the same, and put their
bonds in suit for the recovery of such damages as may
have been sustained by any breach or breeches of the
conditions thereof; and the said directors shall at all
times have the power of dismissal over said agents for
any cause or reason which may be satisfactory to them-
selves; and in making or fixing the rates of compensation
to such agents, the said directors are hereby left entirely

ed by existing laws to the superintendent and toll gather-

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That in the exercise of the
power and authority, hereby invested in said directors,
they shall proceed in the same manner and be authorised
to use the same forms as were prescribed for the superin-
tendent, substituting only the names of directors for "su-
perintendent" or making such other alterations as may
be necessary for the sake of consistency.

SEC. 4. And. be it enacted, That in the application of
the tolls gathered on said road and in rendering accounts
for the same, the said directors shall be charged with the
