sureties of the said Blackistone, shall not be affected there-
by, this State reserving to itself all its rights and remedies
against said sureties, notwithstanding the provisions of this
act; and provided further, that the said sureties filed their
assent thereto in writing in the office of the clerk of the
said county, on or before the first day of April next.

CHAPTER 275.

 

An act relating to the Alms House in Allegany County.

10, 1845.

WHEREAS, it appears to this General Assembly, that
by an act passed at December session, eighteen hundred
and thirty-two, the commissioners of Allegany county
were authorised and required to purchase two hundred
acres of land, more or less, westward of Cumberland, in
said county, for the purpose of erecting a building there-
on, for the reception and accommodation of the poor of
said county; AND WHEREAS, the said commissioners have
purchased a house and land for said purpose, east of said
town, contrary to the provisions of the act aforesaid, and
have continued to levy a tax for the payment of the inter-
est upon the purchase money of said property, and the
support of the poor in said alms house, notwithstanding
the General Assembly repeatedly refused upon applica-
tion, to confirm said purchase—Therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That until the commissioners of Allegany
county, shall have fully complied with the provisions of
the aforesaid act of December session, eighteen hundred
and thirty-two, chapter two hundred and forty-four, the
said commissioners shall have no power or authority to
levy or assess any tax for the payment of the interest upon
the purchase money aforesaid, or the salaries of the offi-
cers, or other expenses of said alms house.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That until the commissioners
of said county shall have complied with the provisions of
the said act of December session, eighteen hundred and
thirty-two, chapter two hundred and forty-four, the same
provision shall be made for the support and maintenance
of the poor of said county, as is prescribed by the laws
which existed previous to the passage of said act.
