CHAP. 232.

ity of the taxable inhabitants there assembled, shall elect
by ballot five trustees for said school, whose term of ser-
vice shall be one year, and until the election of their suc-
cessors, and at whose meetings a majority shall constitute
a quorum for the transaction of business, and said trus-
tees shall have full power to fill all vacancies that may
occur in their own body during the term for which they
may be elected.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the trustees so elected, to appoint a treasurer for the said
school district, who shall give bond to the State of Mary-
land, to be approved by said trustees; which bond shall'
be deposited for safe keeping in the office of the register
of wills for said county, when the Orphan's court shall
pay or cause to be paid to the order of said trustees, their
just proportion of any uninvested school funds, which
may appear to be due to the middle election district of
said county, and said trustees are authorised to invest
said funds when so paid over, as they may think best; and
the interest of said fund shall be annually applied by said
trustees to the support of said school.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the Orphan's court
of Caroline county, shall annually pay to the order of the
trustees of the aforesaid school, their just proportion of
all the school funds belonging or due to the said middle
election district, which may from time to time be paid by
the Treasurer of the State, for the use of the schools of
said county.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the trustees of said
school, when elected as aforesaid, shall have full power
to levy such a tax from time to time on the taxable pro-
perty of said school district, assessed as at present for the
county tax, as may be necessary in addition to the fund
received from the State, to pay the salary of the teacher
of said school, purchase stationary, fuel, and such other
things as may be necessary for the use of the school, and
to pay a moderate compensation to the treasurer of the

district, who shall have full power to collect the taxes that
may be imposed by the trustees as aforesaid; and it shall
be the duty of said treasurer to give each person assessed
thirty days notice of the levy of said lax, and at the same
time to state the amount due from the person so notified;
or, if to an agent, from the person for whom he is agent;
and in the event of any person notified as aforesaid, fail-
ing to pay when called upon, the treasurer may proceed
to collect the same as the county taxes are now collected;
and it shall be the duty of the treasurer to pay over to the
order of the trustees from time to time as they may require,
