tolls of the company, for the construction of said road,
and for such general purposes as contemplated by the
original act of incorporation, and acts supplementary there-
to, as may seem right and proper to carry into effect the
objects for which said company was incorporated.

CHAP. 204.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
said Ridge Road Company to remove its gate now near
Harper's Ferry, at least one mile and a half east of its
present site, and within six months after the passage of
this act; and to negotiate with the Baltimore and Ohio
Rail Road Company for the removal of the track of its
rails next to the cliffs of rocks on that part of said Rail
Road, extending from a point of sixty feet from the bridge
at Harper's Ferry, to a place called Sandy Hook, a dis-
tance of about three-quarters of a mile, and in the event
of the refusal of the Had Road Company to do so, it shall
be the duty of said Ridge Road Company to institute and
prosecute proceedings before the proper judicial tribunal,
to decide upon the rights of parties; and in the event of
the removal of said track of rails, the said Ridge Road
Company shall erect on the space above named, a board

SEC. 3. And be it farther enacted. That the said Ridge
Road Company are hereby required out of the first monies
coming into their hands, under the lottery or otherwise,
within two years from the passage of the law, to expend
at least two thousand dollars in the farther improvement,
for the protection of the traveling community on that part
of the Ridge Road lying within one mile of the Harper's

Ferry Bridge.

CHAPTER 204.

 

An act to keep in Repair the Public Roads in Calvert
County.

Passed March
7, 1845.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the act of December session, eighteen
hundred and thirty-three, chapter thirty-one, be and the
same is hereby revived.

Revived.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all the authority vested
in the commissioners court under said art, be and the
same is hereby extended to the levy court.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That said levy court
be and they are hereby authorised and empowered, if in
their judgment it be to the interest of the county, to put
up annually all sections or hundreds of public roads, in
said county, to the lowest bidder or bidders, and to levy
upon the assessable property of the county for said pur-
