lip Barton Key,, and his heirs, all the right, title and estate, of the state of Maryland, so as aforesaid acquired,
of in and to, the land and premises aforesaid.

THE resolutions of the legislature of Tennessee, proposing an amendment to the constitution of the United
States, by which the congress may be permitted to prohibit the importation of slaves into the United States,
having been communicated by the governor of Maryland to this general assembly, and having been maturely
deliberated on, RESOLVED, That although the legislature of Maryland entertain no doubt but that the prohibi-
tion of the importation of slaves into these United States is a measure most earnestly to be desired, and did, by
a resolution passed in the year eighteen hundred and five, instruct their senators and representatives in the con-
gress of the United States, to use ^their utmost exertions, as soon as the same was practicable, to obtain an
Amendment to the federal constitution, so as to authorise and empower congress to pass a law to prevent the
importation of slaves, but as the period when congress will be empowered without such amendment to legislate
upon the subject, and by law prohibit^ such importation, has now so nearly arrived as to render it probable that
the adoption of the amendment at this time would not accelerate the measure; therefore the legislature of Ma-
ryland do not at this time deem it expedient to adopt the amendment proposed by the state of Tennessee.

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the governor of this state be and he is hereby requested to transmit a copy of
these resolutions to the state of Tennessee.

RESOLVED, That all proceedings against Joseph Ennalls, and his securities, and all proceedings against Wil-

to vest the amount of sales of the stock in the Bank of England belonging to this state in stock of the United
States, has discharged the important trust reposed in him in. a manner greatly beneficial to the state, and highly
honourable to himself.

RESOLVED, That his excellency the governor deliver up to the said Joseph II. Nicholson, or his order, the
bond given by him for the faithful discharge of his duty as agent aforesaid, on his paying into the treasury the
sum of twelve hundred and twenty-four dollars and eight cents.

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay twenty thousand dollars to the commissioners ap-
pointed to superintend the erection of a penitentiary for the reception of criminals condemned, or who may be
condemned, under the laws of this state, by a resolution passed at November session, one thousand eight hun-
dred and four, or a majority of them, or their order, out of any unappropriated money in the treasury.

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay unto Edward Roberts, the messenger to the court of
chancery, the sum of forty dollars, as a compensation for his services for the last year.
Whereas it is of importance to every republican government to encourage, by every means in its power, the
enterprising and patriotic exertions of its citizens in defence of their country: And whereas George Washing-
ton Mann, a citizen of this state, in conjunction with Priestly Neville O'Bannon, was the first to establish the
American standard, under the command of general Eaton, on the walls of Derne, thereby signalizing himself
his bravery, and contributing to the delivery of many of our fellow-citizens from bondage; therefore RE-
SOLVED unanimously, That the governor and council be and they are hereby authorised and required, to pro-
cure a handsome sword and belt, with an appropriate engraving and motto, emblematic of the action of Derne,
and cause the same to be delivered to the said George W. Mann, in testimony of the high sense of approbation,
the legislature of this state entertain of his gallant conduct,
RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay to the examiner-general of the western shore such
sum, in addition to his fees for the present year, as shall amount to the sum of three hundred pounds current

money, and the examiner-general shall lay before the next session of assembly the amount of fees by him re-
ceived in this year, on oath.

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and required to pay unto
Jubb Fowler, messenger to the executive, in addition to his present salary, the sum of one hundred dollars an-
nually, in quarterly payments, during his continuance in office,
