have power to grant the change in the road as prayed for, the petitioners paying all damage and ex-
pence of said alteration, and then the levy court may confirm said road, and have it recorded, and
it shall then be under the same rules and regulations as other roads are in Washington county.

XXII.

An ACT authorising the levy court of Allegany county to levy a
sum of money for the purposes therein mentioned.

Dec. 1806.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the levy court of Allegany county be
and they are hereby authorised to levy a sum of money, in one, two or three years, on the as-
sessable property in said county, not exceeding twelve hundred dollars, for the purpose of building
and preparing a house or public office or offices for the reception of the public papers and records of
said county, and to contract with some person or persons for the building and completing said offices,
which offices shall be built on the public ground belonging to said county, and appropriated to the
use of the clerk of the county, and to that of the orphans court.
CHAP. XXIV.

Court t to levy
money, &c.

An ACT for the relief of Samuel Jones, of the city of Baltimore.

WHEREAS Samuel Jones, of the city of Baltimore, emigrated to, and settled in, this state,
and since his emigration and settlement as aforesaid has acquired real property therein, and
his title to such property may be called in question, to his great injury, from his not having become
naturalized agreeably to the laws of the United States before the purchase of such real property;
therefore,

Preamble.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the title to the property, lawfully
and fairly acquired by the aforesaid Samuel Jones, whether such title be derived by gift, grant, pur-
phase or devise, be and the same is hereby as amply and as fully vested in the said Samuel Jones, as
if he had become naturalized agreeably to the laws of the United States before the acquiring such
real property; provided always, that nothing contained in this act shall in any manner defeat or
affect any right, title or claim, to the said property, or any part thereof, acquired or prosecuted by
any person or persons whatever before the passage of this act; and provided also, that if the said
Samuel Jones has not heretofore been naturalized agreeably to the laws of the United States, he
shall, on or before the first day of January, eighteen hundred and eight, proceed according to law
to make himself a citizen of the United States, otherwise this act shall have no effect to confirm his
title to the property above mentioned,

CHAP. XXV.

Title vested,
&c.

An ACT to prevent the going at large of swine in the village of
Hillsborough, in Caroline county, and other purposes therein
mentioned.

Dec. 1806.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of a number of persons
residing in the village of Hillsborough, in Caroline county, that they experience great in-
covenience from t lie going at large of swine, goats and geese, in said village, and from the multi-
city of useless dogs, and are liable to loss by chimnies taking fire; therefore,

Preamble.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall not be lawful for any per-
son or persons residing in the village or county aforesaid to suffer to run at large, within the limits
the village aforesaid, or within half a mile thereof, to be computed from the boundary stone of
Elizabeth Downe's lot, any swine, goats or geese; and if any swine, goats or geese, shall be found
running at large within the limits of the said village, it shall be lawful for a bailiff, to be appointed
is herein after directed, or any person or persons belonging to the said village, in case of his ab-
sence, and he or they are hereby authorised and empowered, to seize all and every such swine, goats
or geese, to impound the same; and the said bailiff shall immediately, by public advertisements, give
notice of the impounding of such swine, goats or geese, and if the owner or owners shall not, with-
in three days thereafter, pay the said bailiff, for every day of the impounding of any swine or goat,
the sum of fifty cents, and for every goose six cents, it shall and may be lawful for such bailiff to
sell the same at public sale, and pay the balance to such owner or owners, after deducting one
dollar and fifty cents for every swine or goat, and twenty cents for every goose, impounded as
aforesaid,
