930 LAWS OF MARYLAND [CH. 496

Chapter 539 of the Acts of 1951; to change the caption
of sub-heading "Volunteer Fire Companies" of Section
203 of this Chapter so that the same shall be "Fire
Companies", and to add a new section to said Chapter,
to be under said sub-heading and to be known as Section
202A thereof, to follow immediately after Section 202 of
said Chapter, generally amending the Charter of the
Municipal Corporation of Frederick City.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland,
That Sections 9, 27, 38, 115(a), 164(a), 194, 195,
196 and 202 212 of Chapter 539 of the Acts of 1951, be and
they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
the caption of the sub-heading "Volunteer Fire Com-
panies", over Section 203 of said Chapter be and it is
hereby changed to read "Fire Companies", and that a new
section be and it is hereby added to said Chapter, said new
section to be known as Section 202A, to follow immediately
after Section 202 of said Chapter and to be under the new
sub-heading "Fire Companies", and all to read as follows:

9. Aldermen shall receive a salary of [six] Twelve
Hundred Dollars [($600. 00)] ($1200. 00) per year for their
services.

27. The mayor shall receive a salary of [three] Six
Thousand Dollars [($3, 000. 00)] ($6, 000. 00) per year for
his services.

38. For the purpose of carrying out the powers enumer-
ated in Section 36 of this charter, for the preservation of
the cleanliness, health, peace, and good order of the com-
munity, for the protection of the lives and property of the
citizens, and to suppress, abate, and discontinue, or cause
to be suppressed, abated, or discontinued all nuisances
within the corporate and sanitary limits of the city the
board of aldermen may pass all ordinances from time to
time necessary. To insure the observance of these ordi-
nances, in addition to the usual action of debt or such other
civil remedies as may exist in such cases by law for the
recovery of the penalties thereto affixed, the board of alder-
men may affix thereto penalties of a fine not exceeding
[one] Three Hundred Dollars [($100. 00)] ($300. 00) or
imprisonment for not exceeding [ninety days] six months,
or both, except as otherwise provided in this charter.

(a) The total amount of bonds issued under the authority
of this charter, when added to bonds outstanding less the
