(1951 Edition), title "Juries", sub-title "Qualification
and Selection of Jurors", removing Worcester and Talbot
Counties COUNTY
AND CHARLES COUNTIES from
the list of counties exempt from the law applying to jury
service for women, providing that jury service for

women in Worcester County shall be optional with each
individual PROVIDING THAT JURY SERVICE FOR
WOMEN IN WORCESTER AND IN CHARLES COUN-
TIES SHALL BE OPTIONAL WITH EACH INDI-
VIDUAL UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS and re-
moving from said section an obsolete and incorrect
reference to Allegany County.

WHEREAS, It is desired to amend Section 7 of Article 51
of the 1951 Code in order to remove certain political sub-
divisions from the list of counties in which the so-called
"Women's Jury Bill" shall not apply; and

WHEREAS, This section also lists Allegany County among
those counties to which the section does not apply; and

WHEREAS, Although this reference to Allegany County
was correct at the time the Code was published, it has since
been made incorrect by reason of the approval by the
electorate of Allegany County of Chapter 142 of the Acts
of 1951, which Act was designed to remove Allegany
County from the list of exceptions and was placed on
referendum before the voters of the county; and

WHEREAS, At the November election, 1952, Chapter 142
of the Acts of 1951 was approved by the voters of Allegany
County so that now the reference in said Section 7 to
Allegany County is incorrect and obsolete and should be
removed; now, therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland,
That Section 7 of Article 51 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Juries", sub-title
"Qualification and Selection of Jurors", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as fol-
lows:

7. Hereafter no person shall be disqualified for service
as a juror in this State by reason of sex, but the provisions
of law relating to the qualifications of jurors and exemp-
tion from jury duty shall in all cases apply to women as
well as men, and the lists from which jurors are drawn shall
include the names of men and women. The provisions of
this section shall not apply to [Allegany, ] Calvert, Carroll,
