904 LAWS OF MARYLAND [CH. 479

being Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland, title "Prince George's County, " sub-title "Dis-
trict Eights", as said section was amended by Chapter
861 of the Acts of 1917, and to enact in lieu thereof a new
Section 477 (F), to stand in the place and stead of the
section so repealed, providing for a police force in the
town of District Heights and providing for a referendum
thereon.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland,
That Section 477(F) of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Prince George's County (1943 Edition), being
Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title "Prince George's County, " sub-title "District Heights, "
as said section was amended by Chapter 861of the Acts of
1947, be and it is hereby repealed and that a new Section
477(F) be and it is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to stand
in the place and stead of the section so repealed, and to
read as follows:

477.

(F) The District Heights Commission may appoint such
persons as may be necessary from time to time as police-
men, whose duties it shall be to preserve the peace and good
order of the Town, to arrest without warrant and to take
before a Justice of the Peace any person found violating
any law of this State, or police ordinance of the Town, or
upon warrant issued on complaint of others to arrest any
person charged with the violation of any law of the State
or police ordinance of the Town, and to take them before a
Justice of the Peace to be dealt with according to law, and
whenever necessary to incarcerate an offender in such place
as may be provided by law, until a speedy trial can be had.
For these purposes the said policemen so appointed by the
District Heights Commission shall have power within said
town to make arrests for the violation of the laws of the
State and the police ordinances of the said Town, and to
maintain custody of persons outside of the Town while in
custody in taking them to a justice or to jail. The District
Heights Commission may at its discretion designate one of
said policemen as chief of police, and the senior policeman,
or, if the District Heights Commission has appointed a chief
of police, then the chief of police shall attend the meetings
of the District Heights Commission and said officer shall
report in writing all violations of the law brought to his
notice within the time of the said report and the actions in
the premises, which said report shall be filed and recorded
