twenty-five years, must be a citizen of the United States
and a resident of the State of Maryland, and must be a
registered voter of said State. Each such elective officer,
and the Treasurer must continuously during his term of
office, either individually or with his or her spouse, own
real estate within the corporate limits of the Town of an
assessed value of at least Eight Hundred ($800) Dollars.
Each such officer shall retain throughout his respective
term of office, all the qualifications necessary for his elec-
tion, and the failure to retain all of such qualifications
shall ipso facto cause a forfeiture of office, and the Mayor
and Council shall proceed forthwith to fill said vacancy.
The Mayor shall not hold any other office of the corpora-
tion during his term of office.
SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That there shall be
a general registration of voters in said Town in the month
of April, 1954, and thereafter when the Mayor and Council
shall direct, of all persons who shall desire to vote in
municipal elections held in said Town. The Mayor and
Council shall also have power and are hereby directed to
provide for the biennial registration of new voters and
revisions of the registration lists in the years between
general registrations. No person shall be entitled to regis-
ter as a voter, however, unless at the time of the appli-
cation to do so, the applicant shall be at least twenty-one
years of age, and that he is possessed of all other qualifi-
cations that are necessary to entitle a person to register
as a voter of the State of Maryland, under the general
election laws. The registration of voters shall be made on
such day or days, between such hours as the Mayor and
Council may appoint. In addition to the qualifications
aforesaid, every applicant to register as a voter shall be
the record owner of title in his own name individually,
or together with his or her spouse, of real estate within
the Town assessed for at least Five Hundred ($500)
Dollars.
The proceedings for the registration of voters, except
as herein otherwise provided, shall conform as nearly as
may be possible to the proceedings for the registration of
voters under the general election laws of this State,
Voters shall have the same right as they now have under
the general election laws of this State and any person
who feels aggrieved by the action of the Board of Regis-
tration either by refusing to register an applicant or in
refusing to erase from the register, the name of any such
suspected person, shall have the same right of appeal to
the Circuit Court for Prince George's County, as now
