Duties", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
38.
(e). The Sheriff of Caroline County shall receive an
annual salary of [$2, 200] Two Thousand Four Hundred
Dollars ($2, 400) and shall be allowed a sum not exceeding
One Dollar ($1. 00) a day for boarding and keeping each
prisoner confined in the County Jail, and he shall keep a
correct and full list of all prisoners committed to his cus-
tody, showing the full length of time for which each one
is committed and by what authority. The Sheriff of Caro-
line County shall also be entitled to the sum of five cents
(5¢) per mile for the use of his automobile in connection
with his official duties. He may appoint such deputies as
may be necessary for the enforcement of the duties of his
office and at such compensation as he shall fix, with the
approval of the County Commissioners as to number and
compensation.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1953.

CHAPTER 302
(Senate Bill 457)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
1 of Chapter 166 of the Acts of 1951, providing that the
cost of construction of a County Health Center at Ches-
tertown shall be paid out of certain funds by the County
Commissioners of Kent County and that title to such
property, when completed, shall rest in said County
Commissioners.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 1 of Chapter 166 of the Acts of 1951, be and
the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, and to read as follows:
1. The Trustees of the Poor and the County Commis-
sioners of Kent County be and they are hereby authorized
and empowered to sell the County Almshouse Farm and
