each; one of said deputies shall be assigned to the Sheriff
to attend the Magistrate for Juvenile Causes to execute his
process, orders and directions, and when not so engaged,
to perform such other duties as the Sheriff may require.
[Whenever in their discretion the County Commissioners
of Allegany County shall determine that the needs of the
public business so require, they are authorized and em-
powered to provide for an additional deputy Sheriff to be
appointed by the Sheriff and to be paid a salary as pro-
vided for hereinabove. ]

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency law and necessary for
the immediate preservation of the public health and safety,
and having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported
by three-fifths of all of the members elected to each of the
two Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 294
(Senate Bill 434)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-
section (p) of Section 47 of Article 25 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "County Com-
missioners", sub-title "County Treasurers", relating to
the compensation of the County Treasurer of Washing-
ton County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section (p) of Section 47 of Article 25 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "County
Commissioners", sub-title "County Treasurers", be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

47.

(p). The County Treasurer of Washington County shall
receive an annual salary of [$4, 800. 00] $6000. 00. The
