diction and powers, each shall sit specially at such times
and places, within Garrett County as may be necessary for
the proper discharge of such duties.

(b) The Substitute Trial Magistrate, while serving in
the place of one of the Trial Magistrates, shall have and
exercise all of the jurisdiction and powers herein set forth.

234. (Definition. ) When used in this sub-title, unless
the context clearly required otherwise:

a. "Court" means the Juvenile Court for Garrett County.

b. "Judge" means any Trial Magistrate, or Substitute
Trial Magistrate or any Judge of the Circuit Court, for
Garrett County, or the predecessor or successor of any of
them in the exercise of the special jurisdiction and powers
herein set forth.

c. "Child" means a minor under the age of 18 years who
is subject to the jurisdiction of the Court.

d. "Adult" means a person 18 years of age or over.

235. (Jurisdiction. ) Except as otherwise provided,
while sitting under the provisions of this sub-title, the
Trial Magistrates and the Judges of the Circuit Court for
Garrett County shall have jurisdiction in proceedings:

a. Concerning any child in the County:

1. Who is without proper supervision, care or custody.

2. Whose occupation, behavior, environment, or asso-
ciations are injurious to his welfare.

3. Who deserts his home or who is habitually disobedient
or beyond the control of his parent or other custodian.

4. Who wilfully and unlawfully absents himself from
school.

5. Who violates any law or ordinance, or who commits
any act which, if committed by an adult, would be a crime,
not punishable by death or life imprisonment. This section
shall not be deemed to include violations of the Motor
Vehicle laws, except manslaughter by automobile, un-
authorized use or occupancy of a motor vehicle, or oper-
ating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxi-
cating liquors or drugs, which offenses shall be within the
jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court.

b. Any minor eighteen years of age or older charged
with having violated in the County any law or ordinance
