Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Montgomery County", sub-title "Gaithersburg", be and
the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, and to read as follows:
107-18. The Council shall have power to pass all ordi-
nances necessary for the good government of the town;
prevent, remove and abate or cause to be removed and
abated, all nuisances or obstructions in or upon the streets,
sidewalks, highways or alleys, drains, sewers or water
courses, or in or upon any lot or lots adjacent thereto; to
provide for imposing a fine or fines upon any person or
persons, causing, creating or maintaining any such nui-
sances or obstructions; to remove, or cause to be removed
houses or other obstructions or objects that may be danger-
ous to property, health, or persons passing along or over
the highways of the town, or residing in the neighborhood
thereof; to make reasonable regulations in regard to build-
ings to be erected or repaired in said town, and to grant
building permits for the same; to establish building lines;
to establish the grades of the streets, gutters and sidewalks
of said town, fix the width thereof and prescribe the
material of which they shall be constructed; to cause the
sidewalks along the public streets to be graded, paved, re-
paired or improved; to cause the water courses, drains and
sewers to be laid, paved, kept in repair and cleaned; to pur-
chase, lease or receive such real and personal property as
may be necessary or proper for municipal purposes, and to
control, dispose of and convey the same for the benefit of
town; to erect and maintain such buildings for municipal
purposes, as they may deem necessary and proper; to con-
struct and maintain public works for supplying the town
with artificial light, water or other purposes, which they
may deem necessary, proper and beneficial for said town;
or to contract with any person or persons or corporations
for supplying said town, and the inhabitants thereof, with
water, gas or electricity, and to cause the public streets
and public buildings to be lighted, supplied with water or
other conveniences, as they may deem necessary and
proper; to establish and regulate a fire department and
provide such means, engines, apparatus, measures or ma-
terial, for the prevention or extinguishment of fires, as they
may deem necessary; to prevent, under such restrictions as
they may deem proper, the laying of railroad tracks and the
running of cars drawn by horses, steam, electricity or other
power thereon; the laying of gas or water pipes in the
public streets, and to construct and maintain, and to per-
mit the construction and maintenance of the telegraph,
