gardens operated under public authority or laboratories,
in which scientific research is being carried out, and any
persons who breed psittacine birds for non-commercial pur-
poses, may receive or import birds of the psittacine family. ]
except under such rules and regulations as the State Board
of Health may establish. All birds having psittacosis or
which are suspected of being carriers of psittacosis virus,
and all birds of a psittacine family exposed to a bird hav-
ing psittacosis or found or harbored on the same premises
where infection with psittacosis virus is discovered or sus-
pected, shall be immediately destroyed, under such rules
and regulations as the State Board of Health may pass to
carry out the purposes of this section. [; provided that,
insofar as this section prohibits the selling or giving away
of birds of the psittacine family, it shall not apply to such
birds in the possession of dealers thereof on June 1, 1939. ]
Any person violating any of the provisions of this section,
or any order or regulation of the State Board of Health
lawfully made pursuant thereto, shall be guilty of a misde-
meanor and shall be subject to a fine of not more than
Fifty Dollars ($50. 00) for each offense.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
become effective June 1, 1953.

CHAPTER 201
(House Bill 132)
AN ACT to add a new section to the Code of Public Local
Laws of Baltimore City (1949 Edition), being Article 4
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title
"Baltimore City", sub-title "People's Court", said new
section to be known as Section 453A of said Article and
to follow immediately after Section 453, providing for
the procedure of appeal by defendants when there is
more than one defendant joined in an action before the
People's Court of Baltimore City.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That a new section be and the same is hereby
