Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Elections",
sub-title "Election Officials", relating to the payment
of compensation of election officials in Prince George's
County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sub-section (a) of Section 4 of Article 33
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title
"Elections', sub-title "Election Officials", be and the same
is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments, to
read as follows:
4. (a) The Boards of Supervisors of Elections of the
several counties and of Baltimore City shall have power
to appoint and to remove such clerks, registrars, voting
machine custodians and deputy custodians, stenographers,
and other employees, including such temporary assistants,
as may be necessary from time to time, and to prescribe
their duties and fix their rank. Except as provided else-
where in this section, the said Boards of Supervisors of
Elections shall also have power to fix the number, salary
and compensation of all such employees, which salary or
compensation shall be payable by the respective County
Commissioners of each county, as the case may be; pro-
vided, however, that the total amount of compensation so
paid shall not exceed in any one year the total amount ap-
propriated for the use of the said Boards of Supervisors of
Elections [. ]; except that the County Commissioners of
Prince George's County may provide supplementary funds
for the payment of compensation or other expenses which
had not been included in the original appropriation; pro-
viding, however, that no salaries of permanently employed
personnel shall be changed during any fiscal year.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1953.
