instituting a consolidated form of local government for
all or some part of the Regional District of said County,
and providing for an appropriation for certain expenses.
WHEREAS, The Regional District of Prince George's
County has in recent years enjoyed an enormous increase
in population and in physical growth; and
WHEREAS, There are now in said area a large number of
separately incorporated towns, cities, and special improve-
ment districts, in many cases with contiguous boundaries;
and
WHEREAS, Many interests and problems of the said area
are generally common to all of said towns, cities, and special
improvement districts, and to the unincorporated sections
of the area; and many similar services are provided sepa-
rately in each of such areas; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
County Commissioners of Prince George's County be and
they are hereby directed to appoint, before July 1, 1953,
a committee of twenty-one residents of the Regional Dis-
trict of said county, to serve without compensation, to be
called the Committee on Regional District Government,
and shall designate one member to be the temporary secre-
tary of the said Committee; and be it further
Resolved, That said Committee shall, upon call of the
temporary secretary, meet promptly after its appointment,
for the purpose of organization, formulation of a plan of
study, and the creation and assignment of work to sub-
committees. Said Committee shall proceed to make a thor-
ough investigation and study of the feasibility and advisa-
bility of instituting a consolidated and more efficient and
economical form of local government for all or some part
of the Regional District of Prince George's County; and
be it further
Resolved, That said Committee shall complete a report
in writing by December 1, 1954, and file said report with
the General Assembly of Maryland at its session which
convenes in January 1955, and the said report shall con-
tain the result of the Committee's investigation and study,
including any proposed plan which it may formulate on
legislation it may recommend; and be it further
Resolved, That the County Commissioners of Prince
George's County be and they are hereby directed to appro-
