sioners of Anne Arundel County. The members of this
Board shall be appointed from a list of not less than three
names for each vacancy, to be submitted by the Anne
Arundel County Volunteer Firemen's Association for ap-
pointment. Only one member may be appointed from any
one election district. The term of office for the members
of said Board shall be for three years from date of appoint-
ment and until their successors have been appointed. [The
term of office of the members of the first Board appointed
hereunder shall be one member each for a term of one,
two and three years respectively, to be designated by the
County Commissioners. ] The County Commissioners may
remove any member at any time for cause after a hearing
and in such event his successor shall be appointed for his
unexpired term, in the manner hereinbefore set forth. For
the faithful performance of their duties each member
shall be paid annually the sum of One Hundred Dollars,
plus an additional allowance for traveling expenses to be
determined by the County Commissioners.
The Board of
Fire Commissioners shall have supervisory jurisdiction
over the Fire Department [chauffeurs] enginemen. They
are empowered to establish rules and regulations to govern
the qualifications and duties of the fire [chauffeurs] engine-
men,
regulations governing vacations, and formation of
new fire departments, subject to the approval of such rules
and regulations by the County Commissioners. This sub-
title shall not apply to the City of Annapolis.

329. (a) The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel
County shall appoint and dismiss, upon the recommenda-
tion of the said Volunteer Fire Companies, two [chauf-
feurs] enginemen for each of said companies, and in addi-
tion thereto, the necessary relief [chauffeurs] enginemen
to substitute for the regular [chauffeurs] enginemen when
the latter are off on vacation or sick, as hereinafter pro-
vided. Any person recommended by said fire companies
for appointment as a regular engineman after January 1,
1954, shall be required to satisfactorily pass an examination
conducted by the Board of Fire Commissioners to determine
his qualifications, provided that those enginemen employed
prior to January 1, 1954, shall be allowed to continue in
such employment without the necessity of passing such
examinations.
The County Commissioners are hereby di-
rected to levy a special tax in each election district suf-
ficient to pay the salaries of the [chauffeurs] enginemen
and relief [chauffeurs] enginemen of the several Volunteer
Fire Companies and to pay the salary of each [chauffeur]
engineman and relief [chauffeur] engineman [from the
