(p) of Section 38 of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Com-
pensation and Duties", be and it is THEY ARE hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
38.
(B) THE SHERIFF OF ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY
SHALL RECEIVE AN ANNUAL SALARY OF $3, 000.
HE SHALL BE ALLOWED $17, 400 PER YEAR FOR
DEPUTIES AND CLERICAL ASSISTANCE COM-
MENCING FROM JUNE 1, 1953. IN ADDITION THERE-
TO THE SHERIFF SHALL RECEIVE AN ALLOW-
ANCE FOR EXPENSES IN THE SUM OF $2, 000 PER
ANNUM IN MONTHLY INSTALLMENTS, ACCOUNT-
ING FROM JUNE 1, 1953. COMMENCING WITH THE
BEGINNING OF THE NEXT TERM OF OFFICE, THE
SHERIFF OF ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY SHALL RE-
CEIVE AN ANNUAL SALARY OF $7, 500 AND NO
OTHER COMPENSATION.
(p) The Sheriff of Prince George's County shall receive
an annual salary of $4, 000 and [$1, 000] $2, 500 per year for
operation and maintenance of his automobile during his
term as Sheriff, for the use and work of his office within
said County, without any additional cost to the County.
He may appoint such deputies and assistants as he may
deem necessary and a stenographer and at such compensa-
tion as he shall fix but the compensation of all such deputies
and assistants and a stenographer shall not exceed
[$12, 600. ] $18, 100. [He may also appoint a stenographer
at an annual salary not to exceed $2, 500. ]
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1953.
