SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 409 of the Charter and Public
Local Laws of Baltimore City (1949 Edition), being Article
4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title
"Baltimore City", sub-title "Justices of the Peace and Con-
stables", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
409. When there is an arrest by an officer of the Police
Department in the City of Baltimore of any person for
violation of an ordinance of the Mayor and City Council
of Baltimore or a statute of the General Assembly of the
State of Maryland, punishable by fine and not by imprison-
ment or for a violation of Section 455 of Article 27 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland, during the hours when the
Police Magistrates are not at their respective station-
houses, the police captain, lieutenant or other officer on
duty and in charge of such station is hereby authorized
and empowered to release for the next hearing before the
Police Magistrate any person so arrested upon a deposit of
an amount equal to the fine or costs or penalty imposed if
found guilty, as surety for such appearance, and after the
hearing the deposit is to be returned to the depositor if the
complaint is dismissed, if otherwise it is to be appropriated
as designated by law.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1953.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
158 of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Insurance", sub-title "Life, Acci-
dent and Health Insurance", pertaining to the non-appli-
cation to certain policies of Workmen's Compensation
Insurance with or without supplementary coverage OR
POLICIES OF LIABILITY INSURANCE.
