sections were amended, respectively, by Chapters 705 of
1949, 248 of 1943, and 462 of 1937, be and they are hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as fol-
lows:
389. All citizens of the age of twenty-one years and up-
wards, who have resided within the corporate limits of
Lonaconing six months next preceding the election, and
who shall have been registered as hereinafter prescribed,
shall on the first Tuesday in May, [1949] 1953 and on the
same day every second year thereafter, at such place as
the Mayor and Councilmen may designate within the cor-
porate limits, elect one qualified voter of said town to be
Mayor of Lonaconing, who shall hold office for two years
and until his successor shall have qualified; and at the
same time shall elect three qualified voters of said town to
be Councilmen for said town, to serve [four] two years, or
until their respective successors shall have qualified; and
on the first Tuesday in May, 1955, and on the same day
every second year thereafter, at such place as the Mayor
and Councilmen may designate within the corporate limits,
all legally registered voters as hereinabove provided shall
elect one qualified voter of said town to be Mayor of Lona-
coning, who shall hold office for two years and until his
successor shall have qualified, and at the same time shall
elect four qualified voters of said town to be Councilmen
for said town, to serve two years, or until their respective
successors shall have qualified; and the said Mayor and
Councilmen shall qualify on or before the fourth Tuesday
in May, and shall enter upon their respective duties on the
first Tuesday in June following their election; and the
Mayor and Councilmen shall qualify on or before the fourth
Tuesday in May, and shall enter upon their respective
duties on the first Tuesday in June [of each year] follow-
ing their election.
395. They shall meet at the council chamber or some
other place at least once in every three months, or oftener
if they shall deem necessary, and the Mayor shall preside
at all meetings of the council, and have the same power
of voting and taking part in all acts and deliberations of
the Council as any member; and they shall at their first
meeting, after each election, select one of their number as
president of the Council, who, in the absence of the Mayor,
shall preside at all meetings of the Council, and in case of
a vacancy in the office of Mayor from any cause, the presi-
dent of the Council shall be Mayor pro tem., with all the
powers and duties of Mayor devolving upon him, until the
