ARTICLE X
POLICE DEPARTMENT

117. (Department) There shall be a department of
the Town known as "Police Department", the head of
which shall be a "Chief of Police".

118. (Powers) All police employees of the Police De-
partment shall be peace officers and shall have in any and
all parts of Queen Anne's County, the same powers with
respect to criminal matters and the enforcement of the
law relating thereto, as sheriffs, constables, police officers
and peace officers have in their respective jurisdiction in
this State, and shall have all the immunities and matters
of defense now available, or such as may hereafter be
made available to sheriffs, constables, police officers and
peace officers, in any suit brought against them in con-
sequence of acts done in the course of their employment.

119. (Duties) All police employees of the Police De-
partment shall have the following duties:

(a) To enforce the ordinances of the Town and the laws
of the State relating to crimes and misdemeanors com-
mitted within the Town.

(b) To subdue riots, disorders and disturbances of the
peace and to take into custody all persons so offending
against the public peace.

(c) To arrest all persons, who shall obstruct or interfere
with the execution of their duties.

(d) To attend upon any court or official having the
enforcement of any such offense, and shall promptly and
faithfully execute all writs and process issuing therefrom.

(e) To perform such other lawful duties as are imposed
by the Town Commissioners, Town ordinances or this
Charter.

(f) To deputize citizens of the Town in order to enforce
the laws of the State or ordinances of the Town on extraor-
dinary occasions to protect life and property, to subdue a
riot or threatened public disturbance, or to avert any other
danger to the Town or its residents.

120. (Oath) Every police employee appointed shall,
within five (5) days after his appointment, make the
declaration of religious belief and take and subscribe the
oath set forth in the Constitution of Maryland before the
