SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 13 of the Charter of the City of
Cumberland (1950 Edition), being Article 1A of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "City of Cumber-
land", sub-title "Elections", be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
13. The Mayor shall be President of the City Council.
The said Mayor and Councilmen shall take an oath before
the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Allegany County to faith-
fully perform the duties of their offices, and each Council-
man shall receive as compensation for his services the
sum of [twelve hundred dollars ($1, 200)] twenty-four
hundred Dollars ($2, 400) EIGHTEEN HUNDRED DOL-
LARS ($1, 800) per annum, payable in equal monthly
installments; the Mayor shall receive a salary of [fifteen
hundred dollars ($1, 500)] forty eight hundred dollars
($4, 800) THIRTY-SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS ($3, 600)
per annum, payable in equal monthly installments, and
the said Mayor shall devote at least six hours a day to
the duties of his office and to the affairs of said city. The
compensation provided for in this section shall be in lieu
of all other forms of compensation to be received by said
officers from the City of Cumberland and shall be the
total of such compensation to be received from the city.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the increase in
salaries herein provided for shall not be construed to apply
to or affect, in any way, those persons holding the offices
of Mayor and Councilmen at the time this Act is passed.
Said persons shall continue to receive the salaries pro-
vided for in said Section 13 of the Charter of the City of
Cumberland (1950 Edition) for the duration of the terms
for which they have been severally elected.
