1112 LAWS OF MARYLAND [CH. 599

the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title
"Health", sub-title "Barbital and Other Hypnotic
Drugs", generally amending the statutes regulating the
sale of certain drugs.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 270, 271, 272, 273 (A) and 273 (c) of
Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951
Edition), title "Health", sub-title "Barbital and Other
Hypnotic Drugs", be and they are hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

270. (Definitions. ) For the purpose of this sub-title:

(a). The term "Barbiturate" means the salts and de-
rivatives of barbituric acid, also known as Malonyl Urea
having an hypnotic or somnifacient action, or compounds
of any preparations or mixtures thereof.

(b). The term "delivery" means sale, dispensing, giving
away, or supplying in any other manner.

(c). The term "Patient" means, as the case may be,
(1) the individual for whom a barbiturate is prepared or
administered, (2) the owner or the agent of the owner of
the animal for which a barbiturate is prescribed or to
which a barbiturate is administered.

(d). The term "person" includes individual, corpora-
tion, partnership and association.

(e). The term "practitioner" means a person licensed
by law to prescribe and administer barbiturates.

(f). The term "pharmacist" means a person duly reg-
istered with the State Board of Pharmacy as a compounder,
dispenser, and supplier of drugs upon prescription.

(g). The term "prescription" means an oral order or
a written order by a practitioner to a pharmacist for a
barbiturate for a particular patient, which (1) specifies
the date of its issue, (2) the name and address of the
practitioner, (3) the name and address of the patient (and,
if such barbiturate is prescribed for an animal, the species
of the animal), (4) the name and quantity of barbiturate
prescribed, (5) the directions for the use of such drug,
[and] (6) the signature of such practitioner [. ] and in
the case of an oral prescription, it shall be reduced im-
mediately to writing and filed by the pharmacist.

(h). The term "manufacturer" means persons other
than pharmacists who manufacture barbiturates, and in-
