under the jurisdiction of a Commission of three members,
to be named by the Governor of Maryland, the first appoint-
ments hereunder to be made on or before May 1, 1918,
upon which date the terms of office shall begin. All ap-
pointees shall be residents and taxpayers of said Sanitary
District and shall serve for six years, or until their suc-
cessors are appointed and have qualified, and the term of
office of each of the three Commissioners of said Sanitary
District now in office and whose term of office expires
on the first day of May, 1937, is hereby extended to the
first day of May, 1939, and until their successors are
appointed and have qualified. Any vacancy occurring at
any time in the personnel of the Commission shall be
filled by the Governor for the unexpired term. The annual
salary of the Chairman of said Commission shall be [three
thousand six] Eight Thousand Five Hundred FIVE THOU-
SAND Dollars, and of one of said Commissioners, not from
the same county as the Chairman, [six] Seven Thousand
Five SIX THOUSAND EIGHT Hundred Dollars, and for
the third Commissioner [two] Six FOUR Thousand [six]
Five Hundred Dollars, all payable monthly. The Chairman
and the Commissioner to receive [six] Seven Thousand
Five Hundred FIVE THOUSAND Dollars shall be desig-
nated by the Governor and the Commissioner so desig-
nated to receive [six] Seven Thousand Five SIX THOU-
SAND EIGHT Hundred Dollars shall give all necessary
time and attention to the duties of his office, shall
supervise and superintend the outside operations of said
Commission, and shall perform such other duties as
the Commission shall from time to time designate.
The Commission shall appoint, discharge at pleasure, and
fix the compensation of a Secretary, a Treasurer, a Chief
Engineer and such engineering, legal, clerical and other
force and help as, from time to time, in its judgment may
be deemed necessary to carry out the provisions of this
sub-title. Said Commission, for the convenience of the
citizens of said district may establish an office at a con-
venient place in the District of Columbia and all acts,
regulations or orders passed in the District of Columbia
by said Commission shall have the same force and effect
as if passed by said Commission when sitting in the Sani-
tary District; and all acts, orders and regulations hereto-
fore passed by said Commission while sitting in the Dis-
trict of Columbia are hereby ratified and confirmed and
are to be given the same force and effect as if passed in
the State of Maryland. Said Commission shall annually
publish in at least one newspaper in Montgomery County,
and one in Prince George's County, a full and true account
