the resulting quotient by the number of hours worked in
excess of said forty-four hours.
(b) Every per diem State employee who works in ex-
cess of forty-four hours in any week shall receive compen-
sation for such hours worked in excess of that time. The
amount of compensation for such excess shall be computed
by dividing the per diem compensation by eight and multi-
plying the resulting quotient by the number of hours
worked in excess of said forty-four hours.
Provided, however, that the provisions of this section
shall not apply to the Department of Maryland State Police,
Game and Inland Fish Commission, Department of State
Forests and Parks [and] , the Department of Tidewater
Fisheries and to the Maryland Alcohol Tax Enforcement
Unit.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1954.

AN ACT to repeal Section 8C of Chapter 657 of the Acts
of 1953, and to enact a new Section 8C in lieu thereof, to
stand in the place and stead of the Section so repealed,
relating generally to the road mileage that shall be
improved in the several counties of the State.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As sembly of Maryland,
That Section 8C of Chapter 657 of the Acts of 1953, be and
it is hereby repealed, and that a new Section 8C be and it
is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to stand in the place and
stead of the Section so repealed, and to read as follows:
8C. And be it further enacted, that the Commission
shall, from the funds appropriated by this Act, construct
and/or improve in the several counties of the State, the
