CHAPTER 9
(Senate Bill 2)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
18A of Article 18 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Acknowledgments", sub-title "Uni-
form Acknowledgments Act", as said section was enacted
by Chapter 404 of the Acts of 1953, making specific men-
tion of certain commissioned officers of the Air Force
taking acknowledgments by persons connected with the
armed forces of the United States.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 18A of Article 18 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Acknowledg-
ments", sub-title "Uniform Acknowledgments Act", as said
section was enacted by Chapter 404 of the Acts of 1953,
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows :
18A. (Acknowledgments by Persons Serving in or with
the Armed Forces of the United States and their respective
spouses Within or Without the United States.) In addition
to the acknowledgment of instruments in the manner and
form and as otherwise authorized by this sub-title, any
person serving in or with the armed forces of the United
States and their respective spouses may acknowledge the
same wherever located before any commissioned officer in
active service of the armed forces of the United States
with the rank of Second Lieutenant or higher in the Army,
Air Force or Marine Corps, or Ensign or higher in the
Navy or United States Coast Guard. The instrument shall
not be rendered invalid by the failure to state therein the
place of execution or acknowledgment. No authentication
of the officers' certificate of acknowledgment shall be re-
quired but the officer taking the acknowledgment shall
endorse thereon or attach thereto a certificate substantially
in the following form:
On this the .............. day of ......................... 19......... before
me, ................................. the undersigned officer, personally
appeared ............................................. known to me (or satis-
factorily proven) to be serving in or with the armed forces
of the United States or the spouse of such person and to
