OF MARYLAND*

SENATE BILL NO. 17

April 2, 1954

Dear Mr. President:

I am returning herewith Senate Bill 17, fixing the 1955
rate of State taxation. I have vetoed this bill as unneces-
sary, since it duplicates House Bill 17, which has previously
been signed.

SENATE BILL NO. 64

April 2, 1954

Dear Mr. President:

I am returning herewith Senate Bill 64, without my ap-
proval.

While it is possible that the title is defective in that it
is not broad enough to cover the subject matter of the Bill,
this veto is based upon the drastic change which this Bill

* Eight of the bills were vetoed by the Governor following the
adjournment of the General Assembly. Under Section 17 of Article 2
of the Constitution of Maryland, they must be referred to the House
in which they originated immediately after that House shall have
organized at the next regular or special session of the General Assem-
bly and may then be reconsidered in the same manner as bills vetoed
during the session. Of these eight bills, four originated in the House
and four originated in the Senate. The ninth vetoed bill was House
Bill 24, which was vetoed by the Governor on February 23, 1954.
The bill was passed over the Governor's veto on February 25, 1954
and became Chapter 8 of the Acts of 1954.
